ServiceQuote

Offline-focused mobile quoting for field teams — customers, quotes, payments, reminders and PDF export. MVP stage.

Mobile Field QuotingMobileMVP

Overview

  • Designed for technicians and sales reps who work on-site with unreliable connectivity.
  • Local SQLite keeps critical customer and quote data available offline.
  • MVP scope focuses on daily quoting, notes, payments and reminders — not full dispatch or invoicing suites.
  • Shared TypeScript patterns allow a future web companion when justified.

Business context

Home-service and field businesses need to create quotes while standing with the customer. Waiting for office hours or a stable connection loses the moment.

Problem

Quotes written on paper or in personal notes never reached a shared customer record. Follow-ups and payment reminders depended on memory, and PDFs required a return to the office.

Intended users

  • Field technicians creating on-site quotes
  • Mobile sales reps capturing customer details
  • Small service business owners reviewing open quotes
  • Office staff following up when sync is available

Core capabilities

Offline quoting

Build quotes with line items from local data even when the network is unavailable.

Customer continuity

Keep customer history on device so follow-up starts from the last site visit.

Shareable PDFs

Export a quote PDF for immediate customer sharing without returning to the office.

Main modules

  • Customers
  • Quotes
  • Payments notes
  • Reminders
  • PDF export

Technology stack

React Native · Expo · TypeScript · SQLite

Architecture summary

  • React Native and Expo mobile application
  • TypeScript throughout the client
  • SQLite local persistence for core entities
  • On-device PDF generation for quote sharing
  • Sync hooks reserved for a later scoped backend

Security considerations

  • Device-local data access through the application layer
  • No secrets embedded in the mobile binary
  • Validation on quote totals and required fields before save
  • Future sync will require authenticated transport when scoped

Current phase

ServiceQuote is an EH DESIGN mobile product initiative at MVP stage. Core offline quoting flows are in active development. No app-store ranking or commercial adoption claims are made.

Scope boundaries

  • Not a full dispatch, routing or GPS tracking product
  • Not a statutory invoicing or accounting suite
  • Backend sync is future-scoped, not claimed as complete
  • Related product entry may remain hidden in the catalogue

Remaining work

  • Polish offline edge cases and conflict handling
  • Reminder notification refinements
  • Optional sync backend when product scope expands
  • Store listing assets when release timing is set

Main workflows

Capture customer

Create or update a customer record on device before or during the site visit.

Build a quote

Add line items, totals and notes, then save the quote locally for later sync or review.

Share PDF

Export the quote as a PDF and share it with the customer while still on site.

Set reminder

Schedule a follow-up or payment reminder so open quotes do not disappear into personal notes.

Technical decisions

Offline first

Field connectivity is unreliable. Local SQLite is the system of record on device for MVP workflows.

Expo for delivery speed

Expo shortens build and release friction while keeping a standard React Native architecture.

Narrow MVP

Quoting, reminders and PDF export beat premature dispatch, GPS and invoicing complexity.

TypeScript shared patterns

Strong typing reduces drift as quote and customer models evolve.

Testing approach

  • Unit tests for quote total and line-item calculations
  • Component tests for quote and customer forms
  • Manual offline scenario passes with airplane mode
  • PDF export verification on target devices
